Frequently asked questions
What notaries ask us most often.
What exactly is Mentor?
Mentor is a virtual colleague built for Québec notaries. You can speak to it by voice or text, directly within your file. Mentor analyzes your documents, detects anomalies, verifies legal compliance and suggests concrete actions, always with the legal source cited.
Can I really talk to Mentor by voice?
Yes. Mentor understands your spoken questions and answers by voice as well. You can ask about the status of a file or the missing documents, or give it instructions such as adding a note or assigning a step, hands free.
How does Mentor help me track my files?
Every file follows a structured process, from opening to signing. You see all your files by step and know what is missing, what is ready and what is blocked. Mentor organizes and prioritizes for you: no more manual lists.
What can Mentor actually do in a file?
Mentor can identify missing documents, add notes to the file, assign steps to members of your firm, prepare draft acts from the extracted information, and detect legal alerts. You keep full control: Mentor executes, you approve.
Does Mentor replace my practice management software?
Mentor is not practice management software. It is a colleague powered by artificial intelligence that understands each file from opening to closing, by voice or text, directly within your documents. It analyzes, verifies, drafts and acts. Mentor integrates with Microsoft 365 to work with your existing tools.
What types of documents can Mentor analyze?
In real estate, Mentor recognizes dozens of document types: promise to purchase, land register index, certificate of location, loan offer, municipal and school taxes, declaration of co-ownership, identification of the parties, and many more. New practice areas are being added, each with its own verification rules.
How does three-level verification work?
Mentor applies three levels of verification to every document. Integrity: required fields, consistency of dates and amounts, concordance between documents. Legal: compliance with the rules of the Chambre des notaires, the Civil Code and applicable legislation. Expertise: an in-depth reading of the document to detect anomalies and provide contextual recommendations. Hundreds of rules are applied automatically.
What is automated title examination?
Title examination is one of the most time-consuming tasks in notarial practice (2 to 4 hours per file). Mentor analyzes the land register index, the prior titles and the certificate of location, then generates a complete report in minutes. Mentor automatically detects broken chains of title, undeclared servitudes, active hypothecs and family patrimony situations.
What is the Sabrina library?
Sabrina is the legal library built into Mentor. It brings together the reference texts essential to notarial practice: the Civil Code of Québec, the Notaries Act, land registration legislation, taxation (GST/HST, QST, transfer duties), the LPTAA, and more. When Mentor cites a source, Sabrina is what retrieves it, with the exact reference. The library is enriched regularly.
How can I verify what Mentor suggests?
Every alert includes the corresponding legal reference: article of the Civil Code, section of a statute, act number or the exact page of the document. Mentor never makes a suggestion without citing its source. Our principle: no proof, no alert.
Does Mentor replace my professional judgment?
No. Mentor is a colleague that assists you, not a replacement. Mentor identifies points of attention, cites the relevant sources and suggests actions. The final decision and the professional responsibility remain entirely yours.
Can Mentor "hallucinate" or make up information?
Mentor runs on an artificial intelligence engine (an LLM). Like any AI system, it can make mistakes. That is why Mentor is built on a strict chain of trust: extraction, verification, citation. Every alert can be traced back to the corresponding document or article of law. It always remains your responsibility to verify the results Mentor provides.
Where is the data from my files stored?
All your data is hosted in Montréal, Canada. No data passes through the United States or anywhere else. Everything stays in Canada.
Can other firms access my files?
Absolutely not. The architecture is isolated multi-tenant: each firm has its own compartmentalized environment. No data sharing between firms, no cross access. Professional secrecy is guaranteed by design.
Are my documents used to train your models?
No, never. Your documents and your data are never used to train or improve our models. They are processed solely to deliver your verification results, then remain within your isolated environment.
Is Mentor compliant with Law 25?
Yes. Mentor meets the requirements of Law 25 on the protection of personal information in Québec. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit, access is controlled through authentication, and data residency is exclusively Canadian.
Which areas of notarial practice are covered?
The Real estate law module is available today: it is our flagship module, with complete verification of real estate transactions (sales, refinancings, hypothecs). The Business law (incorporations, minute books) and Estates (wills, mandates, settlements) modules are in development.
My firm focuses on business law. Is Mentor useful for me?
If your firm also handles real estate files, you will benefit immediately from the available module. For business law specifically, we are working on a dedicated module. By requesting access, you can help us prioritize the features that matter most to your practice.
Who is Mentor for?
Mentor is designed for notarial firms in Québec, whether they consist of a single notary or a team of twenty. The platform is built to adapt to each firm's volume and needs.
How does pricing work?
We offer monthly plans matched to the volume of your practice. The details are discussed when you request access, since we tailor the offer to the number of users and the file volume of your firm.
How long does setup take?
Access is up and running within a few days. Every firm receives personalized guidance for the initial configuration and onboarding. No local installation is required: Mentor runs directly in your browser.
What guidance do you provide?
Every firm receives personalized onboarding and ongoing guidance. Our team is available to answer your questions, help you get the most out of Mentor, and gather your feedback to improve the platform.
Does Mentor integrate with Para-Maître, ProCardex or Pronotaire?
We are actively working with our partner notaries to assess integrations with existing practice software. In the meantime, Mentor works alongside your current environment, without replacing anything, and already speeds up the production of your files: automatic document analysis, legal verification, act drafting and collaboration for the whole practice.
